How do I cancel a domain name?

Domain names automatically lapse if they are not renewed manually. You can request a de-registration prior to expiry; however, the request must come from the registrant and must include all necessary proof of domain ownership.

If you are de-registering your domain name, we also recommend that you cancel any attached subscription services, as they won't be automatically cancelled. Subscription services include web-hosting, email and SSL and can be cancelled through The Console.

To cancel the domain licence

Organisations or companies listed as the domain registrant must submit their written request printed on a legal letterhead asking to de-register the domain name (cancel is not an acceptable term as it can be confused with hosting cancellations).

Individuals or sole traders must submit their written request along with a copy of photo identification asking to de-register the domain name (cancel is not an acceptable term as it can be confused with hosting cancellations).

All requests must be dated and signed. They may be submitted via: Once a domain registration has been de-registered, it will be available for registration again after 24 to 72 hours.
