gTLD Upgrades FAQs

Overview

We are pleased to advise that TPP Wholesale is now connected to CentralNic’s world-class reseller backend for gTLD and new gTLD domain names. Here is everything that you need to know.

What domains are affected?

From today onwards, all new registrations and transfers of gTLDs (.com, .net, .org, .info, .biz) and 250+ new gTLD extensions such as .melbourne, .sydney, .online and .website.

What about my existing domains?

Over the coming months, we will be consolidating all existing gTLD and new gTLD domains onto the same system. The consolidation will have no impact on you or your customers. A similar process will follow for all .au, .nz and remaining ccTLDs.

Will there be any changes to how domain transfers work?

Yes – they will be much smoother now. There will be no more verification emails for client confirmation as these are no longer required by ICANN due to GDPR. As such, domain transfers will automatically be transferred to your account once they are released from the existing registrar. This can sometimes take just minutes instead of days or weeks!

Will there be changes to the domain lifecycle?

We know that it's been challenging managing your domain names with us having so many different life cycles, so from now on there will be one for all gTLD and new gTLDs.
The image below explains how this new lifecycle with operate:

gTLD-LifeCycle.png

Please note that this new domain life cycle will only apply for new registrations and transfers and gradually your existing domains as they are consolidated. An easy way to check if they are affected is by the WHOIS. If the registrar is Key-Systems then this new lifecycle will apply.

Will the registrar of record change?

Yes. The new registrar of record for all gTLD/new gTLD domains will be: Key-Systems GmbH. Depending on the TLD, you may also see TPP Wholesale in the WHOIS under registrar URL but this depends on the backend registry. The new WHOIS record will look similar to this:

Registrar Registration Expiration Date: 2021-03-03T23:17:29Z
Registrar: Key-Systems GmbH
Registrar IANA ID: 269

Registrar Abuse Contact Email: abusereport@key-systems.net
Registrar Abuse Contact Phone: +49.68949396850
Domain Status: ok https://icann.org/epp#ok

Depending on whether the backend registry uses thick or thin WHOIS, additional information is included about the contact. However, the other noticeable change you will see is a change to contact information, which will now be redacted where the registry uses a thin WHOIS (ie. Verisign for .com and .net domains):

Will this improve the way in which I am supported?

Yes. By moving to one, simpler backend system it will be much easier and faster for our support team to troubleshoot any backend domain related issues. Having said that, we don’t expect much troubleshooting as the new system is more than equipped to handle most functions without intervention.

Will the API or WHMCS change?

No, you will continue to use the TPP API and WHMCS module. Your current integration will continue to work. However, you may wish to check that any automated renewal settings match up with our new domain lifecycle as mentioned above.

What other improvements will I notice?

· Higher levels of automation and speed for domain and bulk functions
· White labelled notifications for all ICANN compliance emails
· Access to domain discounts and promotions

Will my pricing change?

No, your pricing will not change. However, we will be able to offer many more domain promotions and discounts moving forward. We will be in touch very shortly with some more information and offers for you!

What about compliance notifications?

Until now, not all compliance notifications had been consistent in the way that they were handled due to the use of different providers. From this point onward, this will become more consistent and all ICANN compliance obligations will be implemented as we move domains across to the new system. You will now have the ability to whitelabel any ICANN compliance notification that we (as a registrar) need to send to your customer (as a registrant). This ensures we meet our compliance obligations but keeps us in the background, as you would prefer us to be.

To whitelabel these notifications, you can add your logo, custom theme and contact information at the links below:

Your Account Manager can also assist you to set this up. One important change that you need to be aware of is the email verification for gTLDs. All domain registrars are now required to validate a registrant’s email address before changing it. We are required by ICANN to suspend any domains that are not validated within 15 days of being asked to do so. Moving forward suspensions will be actioned when email contacts are not verified. The good news is that verification is only required once per email for all domains that use that contact. But please be aware of this change and ensure your customers action any email verification links to avoid service disruption.

Who do I contact if I want more information?

For any additional information, please feel free to reach out to your Account Manager or email amteam@tppwholesale.com.au and we will be more than happy to assist.
