Article update as of July 2021

Further information is now available regarding the delegation requirements of the .NZ top level domain.

This is only applicable if a domain license holder/registrant has been delegated the .NZ equivalent of a second level domain in the .NZ namespace, such as .co.nz or .org.nz being delegated ownership over their .NZ counterpart, as determined by the Domain Name Commission NZ (DNC)

Should you be wanting to check availability of a .NZ domain, you can confirm whether a .NZ domain has its ownership delegated to another registrant by using the 'Lookup domain details (whois)' tool on the DNC website

If you are a delegated registrant, please ensure you supply the exact whois contact details as found under your delegated domain. A mismatch in Owner/Admin/Billing/Tech contact details may result in failure to register your delegated .NZ domain.

Please contact your Account Manager if you are planning on registering a .NZ domain, as the same UDAI code (a.k.a EPP Code/ Domain Password) of your delegated domain must be used to complete the registration.
