This FAQ provides general information about auDA’s recent statement relating to some .au domain registration records. You can read auDA’s announcement here: https://www.auda.org.au/news-insights/statements/data-incident-related-to-domain-name-registrations/

1. What has auDA announced?

auDA has advised that, in limited cases, information associated with .au domain name registrations may have been entered into fields that are visible through the public .au WHOIS service. These fields are intended for public registration information, such as business identifiers.

2. Is this specific to TPP Wholesale?

No. auDA’s statement refers to the .au domain registration process more broadly, which involves registrants, registrars and resellers. TPP Wholesale is working through the relevant review and remediation activities in line with auDA’s guidance.

3. What information may be involved?

auDA has identified four relevant fields: Registrant ID, Registrant Name, Eligibility ID and Eligibility Name. In some cases, the information in these fields may relate to government-issued identifiers or postal addresses. In other cases, it may be public business information.

4. What has been done so far?

auDA has advised that information identified in its initial review has been removed from public view. auDA has also engaged registrars to review potentially impacted records and has notified the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner.

5. Can I check my domain information?

Yes. You can review the public registration information for a .au domain using the .au WHOIS service: https://whois.auda.org.au/

6. Has there been confirmed misuse of information?

auDA’s statement does not confirm misuse of information. As a general precaution, customers should continue to be aware of unexpected emails, calls or requests for personal information.

7. Is support available?

auDA has advised that support through IDCARE is available for impacted registrants. IDCARE is Australia’s national identity and cyber support service. If needed, you can access free support through IDCARE at www.idcare.org by completing the Get Help form, or by calling 1800 595 160. Please use referral code AUDA26. Further details are also available in auDA’s announcement: https://www.auda.org.au/news-insights/statements/data-incident-related-to-domain-name-registrations/
